How do I apply?

This is an opportunity to visit the Sixth Form, meet our staff and students, view our facilities, pick up a new prospectus and find out more about the courses that we offer. Please see our live feed and social media site for details as they emerge.
Step 3: Decide a Programme of Study
The College offers five programmes of study:
- A Levels
- Mixed - A Levels & Vocational
- Vocational
- Vocational with resits
- Access Course
A brief outline of our programmes of study and the criteria for each, can be found within our prospectus above.
In addition to the above, the College also offers a range of Supporting Qualifications, and an Enrichment Programme.
Step 4: Complete Online Application
Applications are made via the school website at the bottom of this page.
Please do not rush, as it is important that you make the appropriate choice of programme and subjects.
This works on an annual cycle: Applications open immediately after the October Open Evening and close on Sunday 3 November at midnight, for entry the following September.
Carefully complete the various sections on the form, giving as much detail as you can. You should apply for just one of the programmes of Study. If you are unsure which to apply for, please do not be concerned, as if your choice later proves unsuitable, this can be changed as part of our interview process.
When you have applied, if you realise that you have made a mistake, then please DO NOT submit a second application as this can cause confusion. You should email the Sixth Form Admissions Office and explain the changes that you wish to make.
Step 5: Keep in Touch
Please do keep in touch and let us know if there are any factors that could affect your application, such as a change of address or examination entries, or if there are significant health or other issues which affect your examination. Emails should be sent to sixthform@lifttendring.org
Step 6: Interview
The majority of interviews will take place face-to face during November for all internal applicants. External applicants will be interviewed up until March. You will need to ensure that you include your personal statement within your application, as this will be referred to during your interview.
The personal statement should outline your main achievements both in and out of school and also include your current career plans, including any University course ideas.

Personal Statement Guidelines
Your Personal Statement gives us a guide to your level of literacy and communication skills. So you might want to check your spelling and think about your sentence construction.
As with our own students applying to university, we want to see if your personal statement supports your course choices and career ideas.
Organise your statement into a structure that will make it read well. You should include some of the following:
- An outline of your current career plan and any relevant steps that have already been taken towards this goal. For example job shadowing, careers advice from a professional body, career- based mentoring or any specific university ambitions that you have.
- Work experience undertaken and any current part-time employment. What have these taught you?
- Why do you want to come here? What is the rationale behind your course combination?
- Responsibilities in the home, at school, or in other organisations. This may include caring for siblings, or a parent, or making a significant contribution to any aspect of helping at home. In school it might be being a prefect; being on the school council, or organising charity, arts or sports events. Outside of school this may involve helping with the local Brownie pack; being involved with a Youth Council/Group, or helping with a junior football team.
- Special interests and the specific activities by which they have been pursued in the last couple of years. What are you really enthusiastic about? Please don’t include shopping, watching the television or video gaming – these are taken as given.
- What have you read? What books are you reading at present?
- Who are your heroes? What inspires you?
- Any significant achievements in the last two years– awards at school, representative sporting honours, public performances in the arts, maths/science Olympiad results.
- Personal qualities and maybe a suggestion as to some of your weaknesses that might be revealing, but not too damning.
- Please do tell us about any specific learning difficulty for which you have been receiving help at school and any other significant difficulty in your life that you have had to deal with. These help us to understand your position and make us more able to support you. This information is not used to determine your suitability for a place at College.
Step 7: College Applicants
In Area Applications
In area applicants are students who already attend Lift Tendring. They are likely to be offered places following an interview, if we can offer an appropriate course for which the student expects to be qualified.

If you do not currently attend LIft Tendring any offer of a place will be posted to you by the end of March.

This will take place late August / early September
The dates of the enrollment days are provided to students in successful applicant offer letters.

What's Unifrog and how do you use it at Sixth Form?
Unifrog is a one-stop-shop where students can easily explore their interests, and then find and successfully apply for their next best step after school. Unifrog will help you to explore your key interests and what career paths you can take to reach your goals!
In-depth lessons will explore pathways, search for opportunities (Universities, apprenticeships, and much more), record what you have done (courses and interactions), draft application materials (CV, college references, and Personal Statements), and make applications.

Do sixth form students do work experience?
Work Experience is one of the most important qualities of any prospective employee. We allow all students to take five days Work Experience in Year 12, and another five in Year 13.
Whilst studying within the Sixth Form all students also have the opportunity to undertake a regular work placement in order to develop industry-specific skills that will make them more employable; positively supporting their future.
Throughout your time at our Sith Form, we also run multiple careers events for students to participate in, from workshops with different industries, to networking opportunities from alumni.

What is the dress code?
Whilst there is no formal uniform in the Sixth Form, we expect our students to dress in a manner that is appropriate.
It is important to remember that all sixth form students are role-models and, as such, are expected to lead by example, showing respect and consideration for all members of the school community.
- No clothing with inappropriate/offensive logos
- The torso is covered and legs to be covered to mid-thigh
- Hats and hoods are to be removed indoors
- No flip flops or sliders; shoes must have a back or back strap
- Clothing should be smart and clean
Any student of the Sixth form who does not conform to the dress code will be spoken to and if needed, asked to go home and change.

What pastoral care is available for sixth form students?
Our dedicated sixth form team and tutors are here to support the well-being and progress of our students.
Tutors take responsibility for the academic and social welfare of their tutees with the support of our Pastoral Lead.
Students have a responsibility to keep the sixth form team and teachers informed about matters which may impact their progress.
Our Pastoral Lead not only offers short and long-term support, but will also work alongside external multi-agencies for support and advice.
TTC6 is committed to equal opportunities and inclusion and will support any reasonable adjustments that need to be made to ensure appropriate access.
Students need to notify us of any special educational needs or exam access arrangements so that we can ensure any appropriate strategies are put into place.

What support is available for students looking for apprenticeships?

What university preparation and support is available?
The sixth form team provides extensive guidance for students applying to university. Support includes help with choosing universities, writing personal statements, financial planning and navigating the UCAS process. We also offer mock interviews for competitive courses such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and Oxbridge applications. Additionally, we work with outreach departments from leading universities to make sure students are well-prepared for higher education.

Can you study BTEC and A Level subjects together?
